The Bike Programme is an important attraction for youngsters in the village and often provides their first entry to the centre from where they go on to participate in other activities.
50 bikes were donated from the UK several years ago through the kind agency of Noëlle and Kevin Ablitt and are being maintained under the supervision of Intern Anwill Speelman.
Bike rides take place every afternoon under Anwill’s supervision and he also runs a programme to teach youngsters the rules of the road.
Recently 9 of the youngsters cycled the 85 km to the sea-side at Witsand over rough dirt roads where they were presented with Certificates of Achievement. The expedition was led by two of the Project Hope boys who maintained the lead to the end.
