Farm Outreach

The Farm Outreach Programme operates on two key fronts, bringing meaningful opportunities to young people in rural areas.

Firstly, four farm schools—Vleiplaas, Lemoenshoek, Akkerboom, and Weltevrede—are visited weekly during term time by Peter Takelo and Angelo Endley, supported by interns. During these visits, the team delivers a vibrant program that combines storytelling, arts and crafts, and sports, providing students with creative outlets and physical activity that enrich their learning experiences.

In recent years, Peter has also inspired the formation of Riel Dance groups on the farms, which have grown into a spirited and enthusiastic community tradition, fostering cultural pride and unity.

Recognizing the need to broaden opportunities for these farm youngsters, in 2019, we took the step of inviting them to participate in activities at our village center. In the afternoons, groups of teenagers are now transported to the center, where they gain access to valuable resources such as the Homework Room’s computers and the Eduplay program. More importantly, they are introduced to the creative spaces of the Jazz, Pottery, and Craft Studios, where many have demonstrated remarkable talent and potential.

The Farm Outreach Programme continues to build bridges between rural and village life, ensuring that all young people, regardless of location, have the chance to explore, grow, and shine.
