Since the onset of lockdown, Peter Takelo and his team at Net vir Pret in Barrydale have been tirelessly working to inspire and support over 30 families in underprivileged areas of the community to establish their own food gardens.
This initiative reflects Peter’s deep commitment to empowering those around him, fostering self-reliance, and building resilience during challenging times.
Peter’s vision goes beyond providing temporary relief. He motivates his community to take action—rolling up their sleeves, digging the soil, and planting seeds with their own hands.
Through this hands-on approach, families are not just growing food to sustain themselves but are also cultivating a renewed sense of hope, dignity, and empowerment.
By showing that change begins from within, Peter encourages his community to move away from dependence on handouts and toward a future shaped by their own efforts.
These food gardens have become a symbol of resourcefulness and perseverance, helping families thrive despite adversity.
The journey of this transformative project has been beautifully captured in a short film, with Graham Abbott and Neil Fraye documenting the story and Gerhard Bosman of Gdesign Concept Studios contributing breathtaking drone footage.
Together, they bring to life the powerful story of how one individual’s drive can inspire a community to rise and flourish.
